6 Billion. That’s 6 with 9 zero’s behind it, aka “a lot.” That’s more than the number of light bulbs in Las Vegas. That’s the number of estimated lost people around the globe. The mission of God calls for us, those sent by Christ in John 17 and Acts 1, to go to them with the good news of Christ. But do you realize that it would take the number of new believers doubling at the same rate for the next 15-20 years to reach all of them? And what about those born during that time? You see, don’t fool yourself. We are really a part of something quite a bit bigger than our britches.
The good news: We serve a God who is in charge of His mission. He will empower His people to carry out His mission. He wants to give us a massive harvest of souls, we simply need more laborers who will commit to doing Kingdom work and submit themselves to hard tasks. May we realize the bigness of God’s mission and ask Him to become a part of it. How can we be of any significance if we are unaware of what we have been called to do? 6 Billion people, let that sink in for a few minutes. Your heart should break for our world…
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they have been sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us? So faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ (Romans 10:14-17).
